Finn Boyle’s Masters of Professional Practice is now on OPRES/Research Bank (https://doi.org/10.34074/thes.6401).
This was an absolute pleasure to mentor – the subject matter, the approach, the tikaka, and the ākonga all came together in a perfect demonstration of how professional practice is making a real difference, sometimes in unconventional ways.
The nature of my professional practice and core to my claim of becoming a Regenerative Practitioner is that my work takes a holistic, inclusive approach and actively engages with ambiguity and complexity
In a world facing complex and existential challenges such as ecological crises and Climate Change, there is a need to practice regeneratively (generating new potential for life to thrive) within every profession and field of work. Regenerative Practice offers a pathway to developing capabilities of responding to these challenges. However, the language, norms, and practices within the discipline of Regenerative Practice are rarely communicated or taught in fun, simple, and accessible ways and thus, Regenerative Practice as a discipline is largely inaccessible to people outside of intellectually and academically grounded communities of practice.
Finn took on this challenge of communication, and his practitioner thesis consists of a board game “Echoes of Wisdom”, three videos, and an exegesis.

Reflective Game Play: https://youtu.be/HCYzW8eCO8g
In this video, I describe and perform a reflective phase of Echoes of Wisdom gameplay. I discuss how I
have used the Three Lines of Work as a game board to generate insights from my three different
professional contexts and I tell stories about these insights and the influence they have had on my
developing framework of professional practice.
Refractive Game Play: https://youtu.be/ZhS2wa_xFqE
In this video, I describe and perform a refractive phase of Echoes of Wisdom gameplay where I try to
strategise a response to a scenario I have framed with the game: Decentralisation (an Activation
card) in the Realm of KnowYourStuffNZ. I show how I have used The Tetrad as a game board to
generate new insight and to apply insights in new ways across my different professional contexts.
